There are 3 stations in Budapest and the Budapest Keleti Train Station is the biggest. Having 18 platforms, the station serves a lot of international connections, as well as night trains.
Conveniently, it’s located about 3 km (2 mi) from the city center where Rákóczi út divides to Thököly Avenue and Kerepesi Avenue. And, of course, there is a connection with Budapest metro lines 2 (Red) and 4 (Green), so you can easily reach it from any point in Budapest. |
One of the main features of the Budapest Keleti station is its graceful architecture. Gyula Rochlitz and János Feketeházy designed the building in an eclectic style, which was constructed in 1884. Those days the station took its place among the most modern train stations in Europe. Two statues depicting James Watt and George Stephenson adorn the main facade of the station. The interior design stands out for beautiful frescos made by Karoly Lotz. In addition, there are various cafés, shops, vending machines, restaurants, and a supermarket in the station if you need to grab a bite.
